HRFA Minutes by Jean Nelson

Arlene Eakle: She is using as a reference the Sue Daws project which goes into as many records as possible and takes all family names. When Arlene refers to this list, it gives her access to vital information without having to go in and look up each person, which is time consuming.
We now have all available information on John Rampton (b 1667 in Herriard, Hampshire, England).
We are researching for the father of John Rampton. Thought possibly to be Francis Rampton.
Arlene and Carol have read records from the parishes of Preston Candover & Herriard with records for John Rampton. They have also read the records for Monk Sherborne and the exclave (land that belongs to the parish of Monk Sherborne but this land is located in another area entirely). The originals are on Microfiche. Arlene will order the fiche for parish of Pamber and two other parishes not available in the Family History Library.
Question: why is there no reference of individual children born to Francis Rampton? The only reference we have is when Frances’s wife Anne Omado married (2) George Hawkins of Herriard in Pamber after Francis died and “took her Rampton children with her.”
Anne Omado, wife of Francis Rampton, died in South Warnborough parish—where Our John Rampton’s son Francis lived and died. These parish records have not been searched.
Francis Rampton was a verger, a person who carries the staff preceeding any major official as he goes into audience with the king. It is a symbol of power. He is also responsible for maintaining the boundaries for special jurisdictions. A verger could also have responsibility for the maintenance of the physical church facilities (like the PM Office in our day).
Arlene and Carol have only searched the church records so far. There are many other records that can be searched: tax rolls, militia rolls, manor court records, wills, and other property sources.
We have the manor court records for all places on the map at the Family History Library, but they have not yet been searched.
As soon as the next research stages are approved, we will begin searches in these records and report on them at your next meeting.
